U.S. Springfield Model 1884, Type II Trapdoor Cadet Rifle
Serial no. 489047, .45-70 caliber, 29 1/2-inch barrel with pedestal front sight and
Buffington rear sight. Breech marked: V/P/[eaglehead]P/V. Blued finish. Case-hardened
breechblock marked: U.S./Model/1884. Martial blued lock marked: [spread
eagle]/U.S./Springfield. Standard walnut stock with SWP/1891 cartouche. Top of buttstock
stamped: 462. Buttplate stamped: 462. Steel ramrod. Sling mounts.
Condition: Excellent. Retaining approximately 85-95% finish with
bayonet wear at muzzle and light wear to relief edges. Wood with scattered minor dents and
bruises. Bright bore.
Note: 10,000 of this model were manufactured.
