Exceptional U.S. Springfield Model 1888 Trapdoor Rifle
Serial no. 52778, .45-70 caliber, firing a 500 grain bullet. 32 5/8-inch barrel with
pedestal front sight and Buffington rear sight. Two barrel bands. Marked at breech:
V/P/[eaglehead]/P/A. Retractable ramrod spike bayonet. Blued finish. Case-hardened
breechblock marked: U.S./Model/1884. Martial blued hammer and lock marked:
[eaglehead]/U.S./Springfield. Standard walnut stock with crisp SWP/1891 cartouche. Circle
"P" cartouche and G.C. proofs. Sling mounts.
Condition: Excellent to mint. Approximately 99-100% finish with
virtually no wear present. Vibrant case-hardening. Wood near mint with a few minor dents
present. An exceptional example.
