U.S. Hall-North Model 1843 Breechloading "Side Lever" Percussion Carbine
.58 caliber, 21-inch round barrel with open sights. Two steel barrel bands. Breech
marked: S.K. Top of breechblock marked: U.S./S.North/Middltn/Conn./1850. Saddle ring and
bar. Standard walnut stock with no cartouche which is correct. Steel ramrod.
Condition: Excellent for this model with bright metal and only slight
wear and minor spots of pitting present. Wood near mint.
Note: This is one of the so-called "Fremont" carbines involved in the scandal
of early Civil War years; the "Fremonts" were refinished by W. W. Marsden; the
barrel is rifled and finished bright with the brown finish removed. The caliber was
enlarged from .52 to .58.
