Exceptional U.S. Navy Jenks Percussion Carbine by N.P. Ames, Springfield,
Massachusetts
Unserialized. .54 caliber, 24 1/4-inch round barrel with brown lacquer finish. Breech
marked: Wm Jenks/USN/R.P./P/1844. Two brass barrel bands. Case-hardened "mule
ear" hammer, breech lever and lock mechanism. Lock marked: Wm Jenks/N.P.
Ames/Springfield/Mass. Standard walnut stock with crisp RP and JL inspector cartouches.
Brass triggerguard with saddle ring on tang. Brass buttplate.
Condition: Excellent to mint. 95-99% finish with scattered light wear
overall. Case-hardening with light fading but present. Wood excellent with only a few
minor marks.
