Exceptional U.S. Navy Jenks Breechloading Carbine by E. Remington & Sons
Serial no. 3144, .54 caliber, 24 1/4-inch round barrel with open sights and two brass
barrel bands. Breech marked: W. Jenks/U.S.N./R.P./P/1847/Cast Steel. "P"
inspector marks present on numerous parts. Brown lacquer finish. Case-hardened breech
lever and lock mechanism. "Mule Ear" side-hammer with Maynard tape primer
system. Lock marked: Remington's/Herkimer/N.Y. Standard walnut stock with crisp RP
inspector cartouche. Brass triggerguard with saddle ring. Brass buttplate.
Condition: Excellent to mint and possibly unfired. Retaining
approximately 95-99% finish on barrel with slight wear at muzzle. Case-hardening faded but
present. Wood excellent with only light handling marks. An exceptional example of this
scarce model.
