Rare U.S. Navy Joslyn Model 1864 Carbine
Serial no. 5540, .52 rimfire caliber, 22-inch round barrel with standard two-position
folding leaf sight. Marked at breech: F.D.L. Tin-plated finish. Single-shot swing-out
breech-loading system. Top of breech and tang marked: 5540. Side-hammer lock marked:
Joslyn Firearms Co./Stonington Conn./1864. Standard walnut stock with two crisp FDL
inspector cartouches. Buttplate marked: U.S.
Condition: Excellent to mint. Retaining approximately 95-98% finish
with minor flaking at muzzle. Wood excellent with only insignificant marks.
Note: Obviously issued to the U.S. Navy, this example in its present near mint
condition was probably never used.
