Gallagher Breechloading Cartridge Carbine by Richardson & Overman, Philadelphia
Serial no. 24968, .56-52 caliber, 22 1/4-inch round barrel with a dovetailed pyramid
front sight and two-position folding-leaf rear sight. Breech marked: J.M.D. Case-hardened
frame, hammer, lock, lever, patchbox and buttplate. Lock marked: Manufactured
By/Richardson & Overman/Philada./ Gallagher's Patent/July 17th 1860/24968. Side
hammer. Saddle ring and bar. Standard walnut stock with crisp AJN and WHB inspector's
cartouche.
Condition: Excellent to mint, retaining approximately 80-90% finish
with minor flaking on patchbox and buttplate. Rich and vibrant case-hardening. Wood near
mint.
