U.S. Gibbs Breechloading Carbine by William F. Brooks, New York City
Serial no. 1350, .52 caliber, 22-inch blued barrel with standard three-position folding
leaf rear sight. Case-hardened lever and lock marked: [spread eagle]/Wm F. Brooks/Manfd
New York/1863. No saddle ring. Standard walnut stock marked at wrist: 1350. Case-hardened
buttplate marked: U.S.
Condition: Excellent for this model. Retaining approximately 95-99%
finish with light wear to relief edges. Traces of case-hardening remaining. Wood excellent
with minor wear and marks.
Note: Only 1052 of this model carbine were produced and this example is unquestionably
one of the finest Gibbs in existence.
