U.S. Martially Marked Model 1817 Flintlock Pistol by Springfield Armory, Dated 1818
.69 caliber smoothbore, 10 7/8-inch round barrel, with sunken P over eagle head over V
on breech; date 1818 at barrel breech; lock with American eagle motif over U S; at tail of
lock, SPRING/FIELD/1818; steel mountings, including flashpan; bright finish steel parts;
oil-finished walnut stock with U.S. Ordnance inspector cartouche on left side. Ramrod with
steel mount at smaller end.
Condition: Very good. Gray patina, pitting. Stock with nicks, appears
old revarnish with 50% remaining. Replacement top jaw and screw.
Note: Partially manufactured in 1807, and completed in 1818. Note gooseneck hammer. One
of the first type Model 1817 pistols, of which only 400 produced.
