Rare U.S. Navy Marked Model 1842 Percussion Pistol by I.N. Johnson, with Plated Brass
Mountings
.54 caliber smoothbore, 8 1/2-inch round barrel, with US/GW/P on breech; 1849 on upper
tang; lock dated 1855 and with US and I.N. Johnson, Middletown markings; plated brass
parts, likely tin; oil-finished walnut stock with U.S. Ordnance inspector cartouche on
left side. Anchor stamped on breech of barrel at top.
Condition: Very good. Gray patina, pitting. 60% plating on
triggerguard assembly, 85% on barrel band and sideplate, excepting traces only on
backstrap and buttcap. Stock worn.
Note: Scarce example with U.S. Navy marking and plating.
